Perros, Georges
GEORGES PERROS (1923-1978) first became known because of his autobiographical poems, collected in Poèmes bleus (Blue Poems, 1962) and Une vie ordinaire (An Ordinary Life, 1967). His three-volume notebook, Papiers collés (Paper Collage, 1960, 1973, 1978), is still available in a Gallimard paperback edition. John Taylor, the translator of Perros’ aphorisms from Papiers collés III, is the author of Into the Heart of European Poetry and the two-volume Paths to Contemporary French Literature—all three books brought out by Transaction Publishers. Five books of his stories and poems have been published, including The Apocalypse Tapestries (Xenos). He has just been awarded a NEA translation grant for his versions of Perros. He has also translated work by Philippe Jaccottet, Pierre-Albert Jourdan, and Laurence Werner David.
