Writing Description:
A collection of their correspondence gathered in 2000 by writer Audrey Borenstein and poet and writer Robert Wilson, in tribute to these sociologists’ rich epistolary friendship. Wilson celebrated “this splendid habit” of their serving as one another’s constant, appreciative reader: “Ours is a rare compact and one I cherish.” He thought the parallels between their lives astonishing: “We inhabit the same universe and share many sensibilities.” To Borenstein, his evocative writings seemed “leaves from my own unwritten autobiography.” She wrote him that perhaps they were achieving “the realization of every writer’s dream, the companionate reader through whose whole-heartedness the heart of all literary endeavor comes out and stands.” [See also Audrey Borenstein’s listing, Id# 17.]
