The two authors became pen-pals through a children’s magazine listing and they continued to write to each other throughout their lives. They kept the letters they wrote to one another. In 1989, when Phyllis was visiting Doris in New Zealand, Doris returned Phyllis’ letters to her. For the last 5+ years Doris has had severe macular degeneration and her correspondence is illegible.
