Writing Description:
SECOND PERSON SINGULAR comprises passages from Borenstein’s Journal written during the 1980s, when it became her “old compañero.” Retrospective commentaries are interspersed among ten chapters; nine conclude with a backward look. Her Journal is a weave of reflections on American society and world events, family life and love, her struggle to publish her writings, her midlife bat mitzvah, dreams as summonses, intimations of parallel lives, and the covenant between the living and the dead. In 1986 she resigned from academe to devote full time to completing her trilogy of “Palatine” novels. They tell the story of Writing Itself, its genesis and movement toward completion.

Volume is entitled: SECOND PERSON SINGULAR: THE JOURNAL OF AN UNKNOWN WRITER, Volume I of the Series, the 1980s.
